What is Avascular Necrosis?

  • Avascular necrosis, also called osteonecrosis, is a condition in which bone death occurs because of inadequate blood supply to it.
  • Lack of blood flow may occur secondary to many different conditions.

Symptoms of Avascular Necrosis

  • The symptoms may appear suddenly
  • In other situations, you may experience pain and stiffness gradually over a period of time.
  • Typically, avascular necrosis causes pain and restricted range of motion in the affected joint.

Diagnosis of Avascular Necrosis

Dr. Jennings and his team will evaluate your condition based on the following

  • Your medical history
  • A physical examination of the hip and thigh region
  • X-rays
  • And other diagnostic test as needed (i.e. MRI, CT scan)
